Samina Baig, a Pakistani mountaineer, has made a name for herself as a trailblazer in the climbing world. With an impressive record of conquering Mount Everest, she has inspired countless young women to pursue their dreams. On July 8, 2024, a worrying incident occurred in the world of mountaineering, she was airlifted to a hospital in Skardu due to deteriorating health conditions. The incident occurred during her attempt to conquer K2, the world’s second-highest mountain.

During the K2 expedition, Samina Baig suffered a severe health issue, forcing her team to take emergency action.  She suffered from acute respiratory issues and lung issues, and her climbers requested an emergency Medical evacuation.  Because they were located in the mountains and temperatures were extremely low, Samina could not be airlifted to the base camp and was instead moved on horseback to the base camp.

From there, she was then airlifted to a hospital in Skardu, where she was then attended to by qualified medical practitioners. The accident has triggered a lot of concern all over the mountaineering circles and everyone including fans and well-wishers is anxiously waiting for her progress.

Baig was part of a Pakistani-Italian joint mountaineering team that was climbing up to Camp IV when he had to pull out on Friday due to illness at the base camp. She was moved from the K2 base camp to Shigar’s Askole earlier in the day in a critical medical condition that required a long horse ride. Although the Pakistan Army’s aviation unit was prepared for a rescue mission, bad weather prevented air evacuation.

However, at around 10 a.m., Samina was transferred to Skardu, where she got the first aid. She then received medical attention from a group of Pakistani Army physicians at the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Skardu. According to the most recent reports, she was transferred especially from Skardu to CMH Rawalpindi in a C130 aircraft and held in the hospital’s critical care unit. Latest sources claim that her health condition is okay as of now and she is moving toward recovery.

Samina Baig has been climbing for over a decade now and she boasts of some impressive feats that have placed her as a pioneer. In 2013, she clinched the record of becoming the first female Pakistani to reach the highest point in the world, Mount Everest. The other tremendous achievements include Gasherbrum II (2015), K2 (2018), Nanga Parbat (2019), and Annapurna (2020). The accolades that Samina has received include the Pride of Performance Award (2014),
