From a young age, Babar was surrounded by a family that lived and breathed cricket. He received his early education at the Ali Education System in Lahore. His cousins, Kamran, Umar, and Adnan Akmal were already established as prominent cricketers in Pakistan.
The Akmal brothers served as early mentors, guiding Babar through the basics of the game and instilling in him the discipline required to succeed at higher levels. Furthermore, his early cricketing inspirations came from watching his cousins, as well as international cricket stars like AB de Villiers and Ricky Ponting.

The 29-year-old captain’s entry into domestic cricket was the first significant step in his journey to becoming one of Pakistan’s cricketing greats. Here, he initially faced several challenges. Representing teams such as Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) and Lahore Whites, Babar was able to impress the selectors with good performances.
Awards And Achievements
Babar’s outstanding performance in domestic cricket led to his international cricketing debut in the One Day Internationals (ODIs) for Zimbabwe on the 31st of May 2015. The match proved to be one of the most important in his career; and he began the proceedings in style, with a fine half-century of 54 runs off 60 balls. Another memorable performance was in the year 2016 when he bagged his first ODI century against the West Indies. This innings was a key moment for Pakistan as Babar became only the third Pakistani batsman ever to score three ODI hundred in a row.
He bowls both pace and spin with a lot of flair which makes Babar special. His cover drives are some of the best in the game and they are powerful and well timed with elegance. This particular shot owes its reputation to him and it regularly makes spectators and opponents hold their collective breath. His conversion rates and his capacity to perform well across all formats make him arguably the most-rounded batsman in today’s generation.
Consequently, he remains always among the ICC rankings’ leaders and claims the title of one of the best batsmen of the generation.

His remarkable consistency has earned him numerous awards, including the ICC Men’s ODI Player of the Year (2021), PCB’s ODI Player of the Year (2020), and the prestigious Sitara-e-Imtiaz, Pakistan’s third-highest civilian honor. With a career strike rate of over 82 in ODIs and an average of 45.44 in Tests, Babar is still going strong and creating new records and achievements to inspire newcomers in the field of cricket.

When it comes to his life outside cricket, there are several rumors associated with the player, including the state of his marriage. There are many rumors circulating around his engagement to his cousin. Nevertheless, Babar has not given a statement on this matter or even denied the rumors, which is in line with his life attitude and policy of isolation from the private sphere.
